The regime forces deliberately target civilian shelters in Daraa

Aircraft and helicopters deliberately target shelters

On 19 June 2018, regime forces, supported by Russian air forces, began an offensive on the Daraa province. Residential areas, medical centers and civil defense headquarters were the target of this offensive, and dozens of civilians have been killed thus far, mainly women and children .

Over the past few days, pro-regime air forces intensified their attacks and targeted shelters being used by civilians in eastern rural Daraa. The Daraa Martyrs Documentation Office has verified four different occasions in which five separate shelters were targeted over the course of three days. They are as follow :

28 June 2018 : Regime fighter jets bomb two adjacent shelters in al-Musaifira (town) with two thermobaric rockets .

30 June 2018 : Regime fighter jet drops a thermobaric rocket on a shelter in al-Sahwa (town) .

30 June 2018 : Regime helicopter drops barrel bomb on a shelter in Ghasam (town) .

30 June 2018 : Regime fighter jet drops three rockets on a shelter in Maarbeh (town) .

These air strikes killed at least 62 people, mainly women and children .

The Daraa Martyrs Documentation Office holds the United Nations responsible for the protection of civilians in the “de-escalation” area in southern Syria, and reiterates that the inability of the United Nations and the parties to the de-escalation pact to stop these air and land strikes on the towns and villages of the Daraa province is an utter and embarrassing failure .
